For flooring that exudes class and wealth, why not choose tile? Ceramic tile is considered to be one of the most durable types of flooring. What’s more, it’s beautiful, cool to the touch on a hot summer’s day and can give a whole new look to your home. Tile flooring, in fact, can change the entire ambience of your home quickly and affordably.

In addition, ceramic tile flooring is easy to care for and easy to clean. You’ll find that your new flooring will be there for you looking beautiful for many years.

As you search for tile flooring, here are some tips to help you choose the best for your home and budget:

You should be aware that there basically are three types of tile: glazed, unglazed and porcelain.

Tile flooring made of porcelain is the most resistant to scratches and temperature extremes. Glazed tiles have been coated with stains and minerals (this is how tiles can come in so many different designs and patterns). Your choices within glazed tiles are high-gloss, semi-gloss or matte.

Unglazed tile, meanwhile, tends to be thicker and harder. Unglazed tiles usually are reserved for outdoor tiling projects, such as for a patio or walkway.

As you decide on your tiling, you’ll find that your room’s size will determine the size of your tiles. You’ll have to measure your room carefully and then look at pictures of rooms that appear to be about the same size as yours so that you can gauge how the finished product will look once installed.

Tiles usually come in rectangle or hexagon shapes. You also can choose from a vast variety of decorative mosaics or inserts. In fact, if you can dream it, you’ll likely be able to find — or have custom made — the design, color, etc. of tile you seek.

Don’t forget the grout — the “glue-like” substance that holds your tiles together. Grout also comes in different colors and, depending on the color you choose, can result in your room looking entirely different from another room that has  the exact color, design, etc. of your tile flooring. Grout truly can be a game changer.
